I’m a complete automation geek

I used the magic of IFTTT, Alexa, and my TP Kasa switches to get really lazy about turning the Christmas tree on.

This will save me an average of 9 seconds rather than reaching and plugging it in. More time for working out!

EDIT > As a friend pointed out, I do not need IFTTT in the equation. Routines in the Alexa app utilize the TP-Link Kasa devices.

Taking control of a computer with a USB cable?

It’s possible. Not only is it possible, the capability has been out there for four years.

Bottom line – be cautious of what you plug into your computer. Don’t use someone else’s cable, don’t let someone you don’t know well “charge their phone for a minute”.

You have to be diligent and aware of what is in and on your computer.
